About
My name is Brandt Steenkamp. I write satire, romance, essays, and the occasional technical rant.
I am completely blind, hard of hearing, and live with right-side hemiparesis. When a site is badly designed, it is not inconvenient for me, it is an actual barrier.
That is why I care about accessibility. Not as a feature, not as a trend, and not as a corporate slogan. As a baseline. If something is built badly, people get shut out. That is the truth of it.
This website is my home base on the internet. It is where I publish satire, talk about software, and build toward the books and projects still coming.
The site is intentionally simple, fast, and accessible. No trackers, no ads, and no unnecessary nonsense.
Writing
My writing ranges from brutal satire to trauma-informed romance.
Satire is where I sharpen the knives. Romance is where I put the heart back together again.
I am interested in work that actually means something, whether that means making a reader laugh, making them flinch, or making them feel less alone.
Software
I also build and contribute to accessibility-focused software, especially tools that make technology easier to use for blind and low-vision users.
I care about software that works in the real world, under real pressure, for people who do not get the luxury of bad design.
Much of that work is open source and available on GitHub.
What this site is for
This site exists to hold the work in one place: writing, software, ideas, and whatever else I build next.
If you are here for satire, welcome. If you are here for accessibility work, welcome. If you are here because you are tired of polished nonsense and want something with teeth, you are in the right place.
